Housing Choice Voucher (commonly understood as Section 8)

- The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) program helps low-income families, the elderly, and the handicapped to afford good, safe and hygienic housing in the personal market. Housing support is offered through HUD on behalf of the family or individual, so individuals can discover their own housing. You can use an HCV to pay for all or part of the lease.

Eligibility: Public Housing is limited to low-income households and individuals. A Public Housing Authority determines eligibility based upon 1) annual gross earnings, 2) whether you qualify as elderly, a person with specials needs or as a family, and 3) U.S. citizenship or eligible migration status.

To apply, contact your regional Public Housing Authority. During the application process, a Public Housing Authority will collect information on family income, assets and family structure. The Public Housing Authority will utilize this details to identify program eligibility and the quantity of the housing support payment.
